Overview
The Julimar Project lies about 70 km north-east of Perth, on the western margin of the Yilgarn Craton. Chalice Mining made the Gonneville PGE–Ni–Cu–Co–Au discovery there in 2020, under cover.
Julimar was Morgan’s idea. As Senior Geologist at Chalice from 2017, he spotted the potential in airborne magnetic data, pegged the ground, and carried the project through the work that led up to the discovery: ground electromagnetic surveys, soil geochemistry, targeting and drill recommendations for Gonneville and the nearby Dampier/Baudin and Torres targets. Chalice drilled the discovery hole in 2020, after Morgan had moved on to Gold Road Resources.
AMEC described the result as “the largest nickel sulphide discovery in over 20 years” and “the largest PGE group discovery in Australian history”. Morgan received the 2022 AMEC Prospector Award and the PDAC 2023 Thayer Lindsley Award for an international mineral discovery in recognition of the Julimar discovery.
In December 2025 Chalice Mining released the Gonneville Pre-Feasibility Study, which reported a post-tax NPV8 of A$1.0 billion in the base case (A$1.5 billion at spot prices). Refer to Chalice Mining’s ASX announcements for current information.
